SAMPLE BIOS:

First Sample

Carl was born in Invermere Nov. 30, 1921. He joined the Canadian Army with brother Jack in 1940, and Carl served in Scotland harvesting lumber with the Canadian Forestry Corps. In Europe, he participated in the 1944 Battle of the Bulge. After the war he married Marion and had children Sandra, Suzanne,and Jim. Carl was both a mechanic and trucker, and owned two ranches – one on the site of the current Invermere high school, and another south of town overlooking Lake Windermere, Brady Ranch. A lifelong athlete, Carl coached track and field, and hockey. His favourite pastime was fishing with his family and friend, Jim Ashworth. He loved his family, and his eleven grandchildren always held a special place in his heart. He died March 16, 1995.

Second Sample

Born March 22, 1914, Kaye grew up in Creelman,Saskatchewan. She took nurse’s training at the OntarioHospital School of Nursing in Hamilton. After the Dieppe disaster, she felt compelled to enlist in 1943 with theRoyal Canadian Army Medical Corps. Kaye went overseas in 1944, serving with the No. 20 and No. 7 CanadianGeneral Hospitals in England, Belgium and Italy. She married Donald Allan in 1951 and they lived in PrinceGeorge, B.C. until 1971, when they moved to Invermere and Kaye retired from nursing. Their children are Gordon,Barry, and Helen. Kaye died Dec. 28, 2011.

Third Second

Harold’s family emigrated in 1927 from Sweden toWindermere, where his father worked at the Dominion Experimental Farm. He attended high school here, graduated from the University of British Columbia as a teacher, and married just before leaving Canada. A Flying Officer with the Royal Canadian Air Force, Harold died on July 5, 1944 when his Lancaster bomber was shot down over France on his first mission. His brother, Flying Officer Hans Braathen, was shot down on D-Day and survived; another brother Nels Braathen was wounded while serving in Holland. Harold is buried in the MarisselFrench National Cemetery. His name appears on the Invermere Cenotaph. 3
